About our green place

After experiencing some difficulty sourcing environmentally responsible non-toxic paints in Glasgow and being appalled by the volume of unused paint that goes to landfill* The Green Place was set up with the aim of making ecological and reprocessed paints more readily available.

But we’re not just about paint – there’s lots more you can pick up at the shop – Keepcups & Mooncups, everyday biodegradable items such as caddy liners, toothbrushes & dog waste bags as well as recycled cloths, toilet tissue & kitchen rolls in compostable packaging – we’re trying to provide alternatives. We recognise that small changes to our buying habits, made collectively, can make a difference.

We may have “Green” in our name but we don’t greenwash – we have fitted-out our shop using mainly upcycled materials, we use a renewable energy supplier, a carbon- neutral print company and we’ve signed up to the “Give me Tap” scheme. We’re also on the lookout for a suitable, local non-profit partner to enable us to participate in the “1% for the Planet scheme” Finally we love local. If you’re a local maker or producer with a great product that fits with our ethos – please get in touch.

*Each tonne of mainstream paint results in approximately 10 – 30 tonnes of toxic waste & approximately 55 million litres of waste paint goes to landfill in the UK each year.
